What is a Caregiver?
A caregiver is an individual who provides assistance and support to adults who need help with daily activities due to illness, disability, or aging. They offer physical, emotional, and sometimes medical support, ensuring the well-being and comfort of their care recipients. Caregivers play a crucial role in maintaining the independence and quality of life of those they care for, fostering a nurturing and supportive environment.
At MetroCare, caregivers receive training to effectively perform their duties. As senior companions, our caregivers can live and work in various settings such as residential homes and group homes.
Caregivers will be trained to provide:
- Companionship for seniors and people with disabilities, including emotional support and encouragement.
- Assistance with daily activities (activities of daily living) such as dressing, bathing or walking.
- Change Offering emotional support and the provision to support their safety.
- Managing clients mental and behavioral health problems including addressing the needs of people with Alzeihmer’s disease and Dementia
- Improving safety at home, such as fall prevention
- Assistance with Medications, Such as Medication reminders and refilling medication
- Offering Nutritional meals and assistance with eating, as

- Coordinating healthcare such as medical appointments and obtaining medications
Financial Support
MetroCare’s Adult Foster Care and Group Adult Foster Care programs, covered by MassHealth, provide a tax-free monthly income to caregivers. Caregivers receive up to $1500 per month based on the level of care they provide. Some caregivers also receive free room and board in MetroCare family homes.
